This month, TutorYou headed to Glasgow in Scotland, for the UCAS annual Teachers’ and Advisers’ Conference.
This conference is the best way for Advisers’ to be up to date on all things UCAS, including the new Adviser and Agent Portals in development, admissions processes, different types of courses and education trends in the United Kingdom.
We began our stay in Scotland, on the 2nd June, by visiting the University of Glasgow, with SUIG – the Scottish Universities International Group. It was a lovely introductory evening to the conference and was great to meet many International Teachers’ and Advisers’, as well as representatives from Scottish Universities.
On the Monday was the first day of the 9th annual UCAS Teachers’ and Advisers’ Conference, beginning with an introduction and plenary sessions looking specifically at the benefits of studying at Scottish Universities, how the Scottish University system differs and education changes and trends over the past year.
In the afternoon we were able to catch up with many of our wonderful partner universities, as well as having meetings with some Scottish Universities, before attending a Gala Dinner together with all conference delegates in the evening.
The second day of the conference, we attended some very insightful breakout sessions lead by admission and academic staff from top UK universities. We attended sessions on topics including; Admissions Tests, Writing Excellent Personal Statements, Applying to Oxford and Cambridge, Creative Education in the UK and Behind the Curtain: How decisions get made.
The UCAS conference really does enable us to be prepared and support our students in the best way possible. Thank you UCAS for yet another informative and worthwhile conference!
We concluded our Scottish trip by visiting the fantastic University of Edinburgh! A university seeped in history and with a world-renowned reputation. We heard information regarding admissions, tuition fees and the course structure in Scottish Universities. We also got the chance to have a tour around the campus and saw the student union where students can gather to study or socialize with friends as well as one of 30 university libraries!
Thank you to the University of Edinburgh for an informative and welcoming day! We look forward to coming back again soon!
